Yin Yoga & Anatomy Teacher Training IV - Flying Masters, Melbourne
(in English)

This training is suitable for experienced and aspiring yoga teachers and students alike who wish to enhance their knowledge of yin yoga – the quiet practice – and discover the anatomical and energetic theories of yin yoga for their own personal practice and/or with the intention to teach.

"Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life." (Confucius)

When one arrives, we feel, as yin yoga practitioners and teachers that it is no longer work,
but rather a gift.

Through the previous training levels, we have enough knowledge under our anatomy belts to understand and sense the more refined energy work of the meridians and to explore the implications for our own practice and that of our students.

The desire is for the energy – internally and externally – to be tangible for each and every student, so that our teaching becomes authentic and not only theoretical.

Furthermore, besides delving into yoga philosophy and the theory of energy work you can expect to be taken on a very personal, energetic and emotional journey this week with much yin yoga, meditation and pranayama practice.

The intention of this course – the middle way (Buddha's teaching) – the journey inwards  – the journey to our essence.

Welcome to Yin Yoga & Anatomy Teacher Training IV
This 50-hour certified intensive yoga teaching programme (6 days) comprises 6 sections:

1. Yin Yoga Asanas

In this continuance of our yin yoga teacher training programme, we concentrate mainly on the chakras and meridians of our bodies.  For asana practice, this means learning to become aware of the subtle chi (energy) flow in the meridians, and to feel its effects on the balance of both body and mind.

2. Yoga Philosophy - the Ultimate Path of Yoga

In the yoga philosophy section, we study the ultimate path of practising yoga. We deepen our exploration by learning about the Samkhya philosophy - the Indian understanding of reincarnation, karma and an insight into their understanding of the universe and describe the path of a yogi.

We will intensify our study of Patanjali and his first four yoga sutras, and discuss in detail the eightfold path.

Furthermore, for inspiration we will look to the Buddha's way, his teachings and the path of a yogi from the exoteric to the esoteric from a Buddhist perspective. Here we will illustrate how essential meditation practice is.

3. Chakras and Meridian Theory

In this section, we examine chakra theory as the energy centre of our body and discover the sense and power of practising chakra meditation on the spiritual path to enlightenment.

We’ll also study meridian theory.

In the physical body, we know about the role of bioelectrical flow (nerves) and chemical flow (hormones) as a natural source of power and energy for the body.  In chakra and meridian theory, chi represents the highest authority at a physical level, coordinating both the bioelectrical and the chemical flow in the body and supplying it with energy.

If chi is flowing, we are healthy.  If chi is not flowing, we become ill.

Through yin yoga, pranayama and meditation, we move chi and achieve balance in the body and mind.

4. Theory – Meditation, Pranayama and Anatomy

Teaching the theory of meditation (dharana – concentration / dhyana – seeing what is), pranayama (breath control), pratahara (looking inwards and conducting energy to the spinal column) and the anatomy associated with it is as fascinating as it is exhilarating.

In addition, we compare it with classical Buddhist meditation practice and universal meditation, philosophy and theory.

5. Practice – Meditation, Pranayama and Anatomy

Fully conversant with the theory of meditation, we are now ready to move on to meditation practice.

Each day, we will focus intensively on a theme as we practise:

  • Universal meditation

  • Chakra meditation over two days

  • Pranayama exercises

  • Pratyahara exercises

  • Shushumna purification

This practice offers an insight into and provides a taster of the Yin Therapy Meditation Training.
The Yin Therapy Meditation Programme (100 hours) can lead to an extremely profound personal experience and transformation.

6. Yin Therapy

In this section we turn our attention to creating a more extensive picture of energy and holistic healing in the body.
During this module, we will explore various theories and find the connection between them.

At the heart of this third Yin Therapy module lie:

  • Exoteric & esoteric

  • The Little Yoga Way - life in balance

  • Dr Motoyama’s perspective on chakras, meridians and healing

Yin Yoga & Anatomy Teacher Training III - Flying Masters, Melbourne
(in English)

This training is suitable for experienced and aspiring yoga teachers and students alike who wish to enhance their knowledge of yin yoga – the quiet practice – and discover the anatomical and energetic theories of yin yoga for their own personal practice and/or with the intention to teach.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." (Lao-tzu)

You have already completed many steps along your personal and unique Yin Yoga & Anatomy journey. In this teacher training we complete the yin yoga practice and yoga anatomy theory.

We focus our attention on the individual bone structure, muscles and facial chains of the upper body and discover the implications for our yin and yang yoga practice. Through many different tests, analysis, variations and suggestions for therapeutic benefit e.g. shoulder neck pain, we learn to appreciate the person as a whole.

Welcome to Yin Yoga & Anatomy Teacher Training III
This 50-hour certified intensive yoga teaching course (6 days) comprises 5 sections:

1. Yin Yoga Asanas

In this yin yoga teacher training course, we concentrate on the upper body eg. shoulder, scapula, shoulder/neck, wrists and as in level II, on the many variations of relevant poses. Furthermore, with special exercises, we begin to discover, experience and differentiate between blood, breath, nerves and chi flow within our own bodies.

2. Blood, Nerves, Breath, Chi

Heartbeat, blood circulation, nerve impulses, breath circulation are fluctuations within the body that can distract one's ability to sense the underlying chi flow and can often be misinterpreted by many experienced yoga students and teachers for the chi flow eg. blood circulation for chi flow.

We delve into the anatomical function of the blood, nerves breath and clarify with practical exercises, how to consciously feel blood, nerves, breath to enable us to place these sensations to the periphery.

What remains is chi.

3. Energy, Mantras & Philosophy

In this module, we begin our journey into energy work, mantras & yoga philosophy and slowly become familiar with the teachings of reincarnation, karma, the 3 realms, Patanjali's sutras, tantric chakra teachings, nadis (meridian theory) & mantra work.

Here is where we discover the key to our true spiritual growth.

4. Upper Body Anatomy - Analyse, Tests & Passive Assists

In YYTT III, we learn the muscle groups of the upper body, their function and explore in detail various aspects eg. rotator cuff, scapula etc.

We analyse compression and tension of the shoulder joint and explain and show it's relevance to yang yoga asanas (Downward Facing Dog, Warrior), to demonstrate how individual bone structure not only limits and affects our Yin Yoga asana practice.

5. Yin Therapy

In YYTT II, we established a fundamental understanding of how Yin Yoga can enhance and restore balance for ourselves and our students from a physical and mental aspect.

In YYTT III, we delve deeper.

Detailed Information

Yin Yoga - Skeletal Variations Workshop - Flying Masters, Melbourne (in English)

Following international yoga teacher (and fellow Paul Grilley student) Bernie Clark’s long awaited and hotly discussed book “Your Body, Your Yoga”, yoga students and teachers around the world are recognising the limitations (and potential harm) of the “one alignment for all” rule book.

We will discuss skeletal variation, see for ourselves just how different our bone structures really are and in doing so, discover the shortfall of classic alignment rules. When we understand the importance of respecting our own unique bone structure, we can determine our own individual alignment and consequently discover our own very unique yoga asana practice – maximising the benefits and minimising the risk of injury.

Theory:
- Skeletal variation
- Function/aesthetics
- Compression and tension
- Analysis of a yoga pose

Practice:
Skeletal variation tests and practical consequences for yang yoga asanas and assists – such as lotus, shoulder stand, pigeon, down dog, warrior, etc.

We will analyse the following asanas in detail:
- Lotus position – external rotation of the hip joint
- Reclining hero –  internal rotation of the hip joint
- Shoulder Stand – neck, shoulder, collarbone and shoulder blade

We will discuss the following issues:
- What restrictions does my individual bone structure impose on me?
- How different is it from other people’s bone structure?
- Will I or my students ever manage to get into the lotus position or achieve a “perfect” pigeon, etc?
- Where are the areas of compression and tension within my individual bone structure? How do I deal with it?
- How can I stretch and stimulate the tissues, when compression is constricting me?
- What is the physical function of a yoga pose?

The hours from this workshop can be used towards Continuing Education with Yoga Alliance for registered teachers.

Yin Yoga & Anatomy Teacher Training II - Flying Masters, Melbourne
(in English)

This training is suitable for experienced and aspiring yoga teachers and students alike who wish to enhance their knowledge of yin yoga – the quiet practice – and discover the anatomical and energetic theories of yin yoga for their own personal practice and/or with the intention to teach.

"Tell me, and I will forget. Show me, and I may remember. Involve me, and I will understand." (Confucius)

Confucius’ saying reflects the emphasis of this particular Yin Yoga Teacher Training where the focus is on sensing, feeling, experiencing the yin yoga practice and the unique anatomy of our individual bone structure for ourselves.  You will be analysing yourselves and each other, conducting passive assists as well as experiencing compression and tension amongst your fellow students.  Through this very much hands on, practical approach your knowledge and understanding will be increased tenfold.

Welcome to Yin Yoga Teacher Training II
This 50-hour intensive certified yoga teaching programme (6 days) comprises 6 sections:

1. Yin Yoga Asanas

In this continuance of our yin yoga teacher training programme, we concentrate mainly on the 9 awareness points of functional yoga.

2. Anatomy is the Key

As well as analysing compression, we’ll study the tension of the muscular and fascial tissues and the effect of these on the asana practice.  This will allow us to offer our students logical assists.

3. 7-Point Analysing Principle for Assists - Theory

In this section of the training schedule, we’ll improve our knowledge of the 7-point analysis principle.

4. Application of the 7-Point Analysing Principle – Tests and Analysis of Assists/Adjustments

In this element of the training programme, we’ll focus on applying the 7-point analysis principle for assists and – working with the student – study ways of analysing yoga poses on the basis of compression and tension, orientation of the joints, and proportions.

To do this, we’ll learn tests from the Yin Yoga and Anatomy Teacher Training I programme then apply them to our fellow students.

One special feature of this series of tests will be analysing a shoulder stand in detail. This is a sneak preview for the Yin Yoga and Anatomy Teacher Training level III programme, where we’ll focus on the upper body and extremities.

5. Passive Assists

In section 5 we learn passive, hand-on assists.

6. Yin Therapy - The Therapeutic Benefits of Yin Yoga

In YYTT II, we establish a basic understanding of how – using Yin Therapy's approach – we can employ the therapeutic elements of Yin Yoga to support our students’ individual and specific physical and emotional issues.

According to statistics, 25% of the yoga students who come to us took up yoga originally precisely because they have these specific problems.

2. Anatomy is the key

Anatomical understanding of not only the individual bone structure but also the muscular, connective, fascial and ligament tissues is an essential prerequisite for an effective yoga teacher.

3. 7-point analysis principle for assists - theory

This Yin Yoga and Anatomy Teacher Training focuses less on teaching set assists and much more on introducing a 7-point analysis principle, which you can then use for every known yoga pose and for each individual student.

4. 7-point analysis principle - practical tests

In the Yin Yoga and Anatomy Teacher Training, we’ll study and apply a series of practical tests for analysing the bone structure, compression and tension of our students.  We will have the opportunity to learn – in a safe environment – to read a human being, to sense our own limitations and to test and recognise those of others.  Eventually, with the benefit of myriad insights and enhanced self-awareness, we will be able to assess the needs and limitations of any individual student.

The foundation has been laid.

Yin Yoga & Anatomy Teacher Training II (English) - Melbourne, Australia

Yin Yoga & Anatomy Teacher Training II - Flying Masters, Melbourne (in English)

3. 7-point analysis principle for assists - theory

In this section of the training schedule, we’ll improve our knowledge of the 7-point analysis principle.

4. Application of the 7-point analysis principle – tests and analysis of assists/adjustments

Students must have completed Yin Therapy's Yin Yoga and Anatomy Teacher Training I course to be able to participate in Yin Yoga and Anatomy Teacher Training II.

This level II training is a certified stand-alone teacher training and is also the second of four modules that together make up Yin Therapy’s 200hour Yin Yoga & Anatomy Teacher Training.

On successful completion of all assignments and 100% attendance you will be awarded a 50 hour Yin Yoga & Anatomy Teacher Training certificate which may be counted towards our Yoga Alliance internationally recognised 200hr Yin Yoga & Anatomy Teacher Training certificate or recognised as continuing education hours for Yoga Alliance registered yoga teachers.

Yin Yoga & Anatomy Teacher Training I - Flying Masters, Melbourne
(in English)

“Wherever you go, go with all your heart.” (Confucius)

In this 6 day/50 hour certified Level I course of our 200 hour Yin Yoga & Anatomy Teacher Training, we not only learn the 20 basic yin yoga poses in theory and in practice, we also discover a sense of security when teaching, through developing an anatomical understanding of skeletal variation.

We learn to employ the 7 point analysis principle to understand each yoga pose as well as the individual and unique bodies of not only ourselves but also our students. In turn this enables us to offer logical assists and variations.  Anatomy is the key.

Welcome to Yin Yoga & Anatomy Teacher Training I
This 50-hour intensive yoga teaching programme (6 days) comprises 4 sections:

1. Yin Yoga asanas

This section covers the theory and practice for teaching 20 yin yoga poses, including their specific characteristics and their effects.

This level I training is a certified stand-alone teacher training and is also the first of four modules that together make up Yin Therapy’s 200hr Yin Yoga & Anatomy Teacher Training.

Yoga Alliance International 200hr Registered Yoga School

On successful completion of all assignments and 100% attendance you will be awarded a 50 hour Yin Yoga & Anatomy Teacher Training certificate which may be counted towards our Yoga Alliance internationally recognised 200hr Yin Yoga & Anatomy Teacher Training certificate or recognised as continuing education hours for Yoga Alliance registered yoga teachers.

Yin Yoga & Anatomy Workshop (English) - Melbourne, Australia

Yin Yoga & Yoga Anatomy Workshop with Flying Masters, Melbourne (in English)

“Wherever you go, go with all your heart.” (Confucius)

Yin yoga is one of the calmest and most relaxing forms of yoga in the world, consisting of a series of passive poses of the body.

By means of long-held stretches (3–5 minutes) without muscle tension, we focus on the deep connective, fascial and ligamental tissues – stimulating, strengthening and stretching the tissues.

We mobilise the joints, and stimulate and calm the nervous system, thereby reducing stress and encouraging regeneration.

During the practice we temporarily slow down the flow of Chi energy, enabling the revitalising energy to accumulate and then flow more freely on conclusion of the practice.

Indeed for days after a yin yoga practice, we’ll feel blissfully relaxed and recharged.

Depending on the length of the workshop, either all or only certain themes of Yin Yoga and Anatomy theory – as listed below – will be discussed.
Depending on the length of the workshop, either all or only a selection of Yin Yoga and Anatomy listed below will be practised.

  • What is Yin Yoga?
  • What is yang yoga?
  • What are the advantages of each kind of yoga?
  • How do they complement each other?

Shoulderstand       - neck, shoulder, collarbone and shoulder blade

We'll discuss the following issues:

  • What restrictions does my individual bone structure impose on me?
  • How different is it from other people’s bone structure?
  • Will I or my students ever manage to get into the lotus position or achieve a “perfect” pigeon, etc?
  • Where are the areas of compression and tension within my individual bone structure? How do I deal with it? How can I stretch and stimulate the tissues, when compression is constricting me?
