The difference between static objects and the mobile body
If we place a precise weight on top of a house, most likely the roof will collapse at the point of direct compression first.
If we overburden a human being – for example, if we put too heavy a barbell on someone’s shoulders – the weakest structure will break, regardless of how far away it is from where the compression is. As our bodies work via myofascial and fascial contractions and compressions, this might mean it is a knee rather then the shoulder that becomes injured and starts to hurt.
Western medicine often tends to treat the symptom (knee pain) rather then the cause (too much weight on the shoulders). We believe it is more effective to treat the whole body –as alternative healing methods including yin yoga have been doing for thousands of years.
